The University of Washington has a comprehensive Fiber Arts Certificate program, and in July I attended an exhibition in which my friend and former sewing student Francesca was showing her work. The work was titled, if I remember correctly, “Goddess of Avarian Plague.” From the title you can see that the program is very open to wherever a student wants to go! Francesca’s work was well-constructed in black with feathers in the bodice front and openwork in the back with a full skirt. It was lovely, and I also enjoyed the other exhibits and chatting with students.
According to the program, “Dive in to the imaginative and eclectic world of fiber art and take your work in any fiber medium in new directions.” The Fiber Arts program will have an open house on September 13 from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at the School of Art.
