There’s a new quilt shop in Columbia City, which is convenient to Seattle and south Seattle. I stopped by last weekend to meet owner Stephanie. I learned of the new shop not through my usual sewing network but rather through my friend Fran, who works with a woman that Stephanie is pals with. (Can you say, “Small world!”?)
Stash is Stephanie’s answer to new motherhood and a tough job market in the field of architecture, in which she holds a degree. She says she began quilting when her son was born, although she’s been sewing since she was little herself. The shop has a pleasant atmosphere and lots of daylight. So far the store is stocked with quilting cottons and flannels from Michael Miller, In the Beginning, and Moda. The entire selection was inviting, colorful and made me want to pair some colors right there. I purchased a few yards of Michael Miller’s “Love Lace” for a summer skirt. I’m thinking of a dropped yolk skirt. In trying to find the print online, I found this lovely Michael Miller beginner quilt with the fabric featured. Classes are in the works for the back room at Stash. If you’re local, check it out soon and shop local!
